OLX. Top classified website of India?
Wednesday, January 18, 2012
So i was just searching for some second hand games for my ps2 and wii, i cant generally play a game for more than a week and find spending money on them like utter waste, so was just looking to see if i could find some second hand video games. I reached olx and surfed through the video games category.
Its only later that i realized its an olx page. earlier whenever i used to search anything of a niche category i generally ended up on a clickindia.com page, i tell you clickindia used to be super effective but i dont see them a lot these days. On the other end i m seeing olx in search results much more often especially when i m searching for local information. I was looking for some office space in the small town that i live in and the only listing that were being shown were from olx, i would have expected listing from property websites.
I wont be wrong if i call olx as the top classified website in India, quickr is also doing good but their spelling itself is so confusing that i wont take trouble to figure out the spelling to visit them. Sulekha had its days but there is hardly any buzz around them these days, whereas olx is growing much faster, with all the tv campaigns and stuff, they are also spending a lot on cpc and cpl advertising.
Moreover olx is a world wide network, they have separate properties in most of the countries unlike most classified operators in india who are just dealing with a specific geographical market that is india. Being a global network gives them separate leverage when compete-ting with the peers.
The software they are using is pretty much standard, in terms of interface and stuff its just like rest of sites because there is nothing much to innovate in this, but still there are websites like clickindia which are very innovative in their offerings.
With the kind of money they are spending i think olx does have a very good feature, and they will continue capturing more market. Its time that other india specific classified companies wake up before their market is eaten up.
